Among the medicinal plants that have aported to the Peruvian Amazon, definitely the highlight is Cat's Claw (Uncaria tomentosa), which has achieved wide recognition because of its incredible properties. CHEMICAL COMPOSITION: Cat's Claw has been extensively studied regarding its chemical composition from the 70's in several places in the world. The first group of substances studied was that of the alkaloids oxindoles. Subsequently reported the presence of several additional types of substances including quin×£vic acid glycosides, tannins, catechins, procyanidins, plant sterols (beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol, and campesterol) and carboxyl alkyl esters. Studies have shown that Cat's Claw has antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, immunostimulant, anticarcinogenic, antimutagenic (cellular protector), antiviral, and antidepressant grastroprotectora properties.
